Design, art, objet, interiors and African artefacts — gathered in the Melville precinct of Johannesburg, online and in person, and shared with the world.
Trov is an experiential showroom, both online and physical, that connects potential buyers to authentic African artefacts and the stories held within them. From the stories of the dealers, to the makers, to the previous owners and the artefacts themselves, Trov revolves around story.
We have forged strong relationships with our dealers and are dedicated to fair trade and fair compensation in an industry that too often takes advantage of its suppliers and creators.
In this way, Trov encourages respect for and connection to the artefacts — ensuring informed purchases and the lifelong treasuring of these precious pieces.
Everything begins with story — told, where possible, by the makers and dealers themselves.
We buy directly and fairly, ensuring proper compensation for the people behind every piece.
We celebrate the energy and skill in making beautiful, meaning-filled objects by hand.
Trov is a community, borne from the many individuals who contribute to its story.
Our pieces are sourced across the continent — from West Africa, Mali and Benin to South Africa — from Zulu ukhamba pots pit-fired in the open sun, to Benin bronzes cast by the thousand-year-old lost-wax method, to baskets and textiles woven by hand.
We work directly with the dealers and makers behind every piece, so each object arrives with its provenance and its story intact.
